Devonport Column

Commemorative column 1824 by John Foulston. Granite fluted Greek Doric column surmounted by railed platform with flagpole, the column standing on a panelled plinth set on a high stepped granite ashlar platform approached by steps.

Why is the site at risk? Although the column itself is structurally sound, the panelled plinth and platform and steps as well as the neighbouring wall are all in need of maintenance. There is vegetation growing out of the cracks; and the steps are covered in fallen debris; however, there are plans to refurbish the column as part of the works on Ker Street so it is hoped that the maintenance needs will be fulfilled in the near future.
