Plymouth Castle

Remains of the gatehouse of the "South Port". Probably 14th or 15th century. Rubble wall about 3m high, built on bedrock. Short length of very thick wall with central semicircular on plan truncated projection, which is the remains of the right-hand flanking turret of the west gatehouse.

Why is the site at risk? There is extensive vegetation growth on top and to the rear of the wall, mainly ivy. And there are cracks in and loose/missing mortar. Small stones missing in parts, especially alongside wall. Capping on top of walls loose or missing in places.
