The Belvedere

Large Belvedere in park. Erected on site of former bull ring. 1891. Structure incorporates 17th century granite Tuscan columns from the old market. Stucco with stucco detail. Terraced building on three levels, each with a colonnaded front.

Why is the site at risk? Temporary repairs were carried out in 1995, however it is dent that more needs to be done now. There is evidence of water penetration in the top section with cracks in the render; the iron ceiling struts are rusting and there are stalactites; in the middle section there is evidence of leakage with cracked concrete on the floor. There are cracks and bubbling in the render in the lowest section with overgrown vegetation apparent at the western end of the lowest section.
